This is one of those movies you can put on for "I don't like horror movies" people. There are almost no jump scares, no gore that I can recall, and no monsters or masked killers or anything like that. But it kicks off with the premise of "Huh, this is a weird dinner party - what's up with this?" and successfully builds tension from there. The reveal at the very end is extremely cool.

My wife hates horror movies and really liked this movie because she thought it was a drama/thriller. Then it became clear that it was horror, she tapped out. Made it through almost the entire movie.

I didn't list either but somewhat surprised that the original ranked higher than the sequel, given the hype machine the sequel had for being so good on a small budget. IIRC, it was the lowest budget movie - horror or otherwise - to crack the weekly Top 10 at the box office in over a decade (COVID era notwithstanding).

I would love to see that footage as well. A pre-code classic that probably could not have been made in any other era. Would have made my Top 100

This movie ****ed me up as a kid. ****ed me right up. I think it may be even more stressful now as a parent. However, having worked in a rabies control and prevention program during my career… those two would have been fine. There is no such thing as a “furious” stage, and Cujo would have been more likely to wander off than actually try to hurt anyone. Takes some of the bite out of the terror.

I had the sequel one spot ahead of the original. The original was so unique to me that it ranks right up there with the second one, even though the sequel really kicks it up a notch. Art the Clown is the best slasher character to come out since Freddy, imo.

In the 80s movie thread, I made way too long a post arguing why Part 2 is superior to the original and might be the best of the series, so this is the sole entry representing Friday the 13th on my own list. Jason;s murder shack, smarter final girl culminating in a better final chase, and more clever kills,
A great argument can be made for that…..I agree.

I only put one on my list and it was not part 2. But yes a strong strong entry into a very uneven series.

Same. It’s creepy and a one of a kind but the studio destroyed it. The ending is awful, I wish they were able to restore the proper ending. It desperately needs the directors cut but it seems like it simply doesn’t exist.

#111 - The Fog

I didn't watch this until maybe the late 90's. I love Carpenter but didn't love this one. I remember it seeming very cheesy, was the woman on the radio giving up to the minute updates on how close the fog was? Maybe I need to give it another watch.

This is one of those movies you can put on for "I don't like horror movies" people. There are almost no jump scares, no gore that I can recall, and no monsters or masked killers or anything like that. There is another movie that fits that description that I love and really wanted to include on my list, but in the end didn't because it probably really isn't horro.
