Rakestraw like Arnold better in press. Carleton Davis prefers press.

Lions can now be aggressive and play press on defense.
 
That is one way to say good riddance to Will Harris, Jerry Jacobs, Cam Sutton, Chase Lucas, Sterling Thomas, Khalil Dorsey and the entire secondary coaching staff.....we cleaned house.

The 27th ranked pass defense no more.
 
Lions picks: 1st - CB Arnold. 2nd - CB Rakestraw. 3rd - CB Carlton Davis ;)
Can't really badmouth Brad, and can't fault him for finding last year's DB room a mess.
Now a really long wait. Wonder if 5th/6ths will produce at least once OL. Maybe WR too? Or a long shot at Edge?

Brad has ants in his pants regarding the draft. Believe he will get back in before our 5th round pick using next year’s picks

The CB position has clearly caught up with the rest of the defense. Look at the end of last season;

Puka.....9-181
Justin Jefferson.. 12-192
Justin Jefferson. 6-141
Ceedee Lamb... 13-227
Mike Evans. 8-147

That was embarrassing. I would say they addressed that.
 
Man talk about taking care of a position group by just flooding the roster with talent.

Think about who we play six times a year, you're gonna have to have good corners to beat GB, CHI & MIN.

DJ Moore & Keenan Allen + Rome Odunze
JJ & Addison

This is like swapping out a 4 cylinder for a big block V8
 
ESPN screen shot for the Rakestraw pick considered him to be a smart pick as there was only a 18% expectation that he would be available at pick 61.

The Lions put a lot of value on physicality. We want guys who are going to punch you in the face on Defense. The trade-off is we don't have that elite top-end speed of someone like Wiggins would have given us, so we will need to disrupt their routes at the LOS.

It is going to be a fun season! We have a team loaded with playmakers on both sides of the ball. The first time I have really felt good about every single position. The schedule is much tougher though, especially with the Bears and the Vikings making huge strides.

I think both of these guys play faster than their 40 times. Very similar to Brian Branch.

It definitely seems like it's on the rise. Hutch and McNeil are both Pro Bowl quality DL and disruptors. If DJ Reader stays healthy, he is going to create even more quality match-ups for them to bring pressure on QBs. James Houston is a wild card. As a rookie he was probably the most efficient pass rusher in the NFL but he missed all of last season to injury. He could be a double digit sack pass rush specialist or he could be a guy who hardly sees the field. The big question will be how much all the new CBs actually fix the pass coverage problem because it was actually disgusting how poor our pass coverage was last year. It looked like we weren't even trying out there. So in theory, that should be better and our young guys should improve. I think the Lions will be difficult to run on and with a high scoring offense, teams will likely need to go pass heavy to keep up which for fantasy can create a lot of big splash plays like interceptions, qb sacks, etc. The potential is there for a good fantasy defense. But right now it's strictly potential.
 
I'm in a best ball redraft where we carry 2 D/STs. Even though it includes a homer bias I am looking at them as my second D for many of the reasons listed above. The new corners should give the line a little longer to get to the QB. Plus like Branch before him Arnold reacts well to the ball which hopefully creates turnovers.

I view Houston and Jamo as players who have the potential to be “explosive” in terms of how much potential they have to elevate the defense and offense.

NFC North is most likely going to resemble AFC North where all the teams beat each other and split games, but fare well outside of their divisions and all are in the running for Div champs/wildcard. It’s going to be messy. I still feel good about it all but would have been nice to have 1-2 teams be dumpster fires whilst we are in our period of looking very good

They are very fluid and are elite in things like cone drills. But if a 4.3 guy gets a step on them, there is no closing speed. Good technique can help limit it, but there will always be those rare instances where not having that top end elite speed will hurt.

True. In my internet surfing somebody mentioned that Arnold shut down Worthy when Bama played TX so hopefully that continues in the NFL

Lions give up a 3rd rd pick next year to the Jets to trade up from 164 to 126 (while wearing all Dan Campbell black jerseys in the draft war room ahahah) to select OT Giovanni Manu from the Univ. of British Columbia. Lined up on the left side at both T and G.

First U Sports* player since 2016. David Onyemata, who was taken in the fourth round by the New Orleans Saints back in 2016, was the last.

If he would have been at Combine, he would have tested off the charts....

Manu was clocked at 5.03 in the 40-yard dash with a 33.5 inch vertical leap. He also bench-pressed 225 pounds for 23 reps
 
Could you imagine a 350 lbs beast jumping up 34" and landing on you? Damn, that is a massive amount of potential energy.
