2023-24 NBA (Playoffs!) Thread: Celtics win East and now wait to see whether Luka or Kyrie suffer season-ending injury (70 Viewers)

I’m excited about the Pistons draft. Two guys projected to go around #5 are Matas Buzelis and Zacharrie Risacher, both the type of offensively skilled forward that would fit perfectly alongside their current core.

G: Cunningham
G: Ivey
F: Ausar
F: Buzelis / Risacher
C: Duren

Give that group 3 years to develop and play together, with the kind of coaching they have no chance to get in Detroit because they made a lifetime commitment to Monty Williams, have them all stay healthy and hit their 90th percentile outcomes, and I’m confident that lineup could win 35 games and get the absolute living **** kicked out of it in a 9/10 play-in game.

Great time to be a Pistons fan.
I'll be disappointed if the Spurs do not draft either Buzelis or Risacher with the #4, assuming both are not snatched up in the top 3. Currently my preference is Buzelis, but the results of the combine could sway my opinion. Then either Reed Sheppard or Dillingham with the #8 (prefer Sheppard, but likely gone by #8). If both are gone, them I prefer a doubledown at wing with Cody Williams.

Not too thrilled at the prospect of drafting Topic, primarily because of health concerns and small body of work. Also, that giraffe neck ain't fooling anyone. He has the shoulder heighth of a 6'3 player, but maybe his wingspan can compensate for it.
Looks like no need to worry about Topic, as he suffered a non-contact knee injury. So, good call on the “health concerns.”

Yeah, the reports were pretty sketchy about his health the past few months. Feel bad for him (seems he may have gotten some bad medical advisement), but now he might be an awesome dart throw in the late 1st if he's draft eligible.

which of the remaining teams has the least injuries right now? that's who i pick to win it all.

it's like the NFL. forget seeds after round 1, who left is healthy enough to win?

In order of importance of missing guys

NYK - OG, Randle, Robinson, Bogdanovic
CLE - Mitchell, Allen
BOS - Porzingis
DAL - Kleber
IND - Mathurin
MIN - nobody
DEN - nobody
OKC - nobody

It gets worse if you add in banged up / limited guys like Brunson, Luka, Murray?, and Halliburton

Murray looked fine, but I was just going with guys who aren't playing. Everyone is gonna be banged up in some fashion

Celtics sponsored by Vista Print? Did they outbid Kodak or Photobucket? :lmao:
If I had billionaire money I would commission a Chico's Bail Bonds patch.

Which team?
Long ago, I think this was the case with the Portland Jailbreakers

I'd take that team back yesterday....

:kicksrock:

I mean, Isiah Rider wouldn't even get in trouble nowadays for smoking weed out of a Sprite can in a parked car in Lake Oswego.

The NBA isn't like that unless it is a major injury to a key player. There is a reason like 85 percent of all titles have been a 4 seed or higher. When they playoffs start there are 5ish teams at most that can win it all.

Edit: I take that back. 77 champions in NBA history. 75 have been top 3 seeds in their conference, and 67 have been top 2 seeds.

yeah, it was more hyperbole than statement of fact

just feels like everyone is beat to hell this year

Why was LeBron court side last night in Cleveland?

He is from there?
Not what Windy says...
Is Bronny actually NBA material? Scary what happened at USC, they must be so relieved he's jumping to the NBA

No. If his name was Bronny Robinowitz you'd see a player who averaged 4.8 points on 36% shooting and never give him a second look.
Some guy got drafted from a euro league where he averaged 6 ppg last year.

Once again, nba looks at size, skill and intangibles. They absolutely do not care about your ppg number in the pac-10.

They care more about it when you are 6-1 athlete who guards one position versus someone who is 6-8 and guards 4 positions.

That stuff doesn't matter as much when your Dad is a free agent and his name is Lebron.

I doubt he would ever want to go there and I don’t think they have the cap space, but Lebron would actually be a great fit in Indy. Veteran guy who knows how to win in the playoffs. Still a good defender and a big strong presence in the paint that they lack. Great facilitator that would fit in with their offense. Team with great depth that would allow him more breathers throughout the season. Still fairly close to his hometown of Akron.

Maybe. We’ll find out soon enough.

Buddy, I know LeBron is your hero and you think his spawn is destined for greatness simply because he's a "James" but Bronny is not an NBA caliber player. Neither was Jordan's boys. 36%......fella.

I’ve never said any of those things, Lebron isn’t my hero, he’s not even my favorite nba player, and his son certainly isn’t headed for greatness but I do think he can possibly carve out a role as a defensive specialist. I doubt he gets drafted in the top-50 though.

The immense hatred he gets for just existing and trying to make the league is beyond bizarre to me though. Wasn’t expecting you to be on that train…..pal. It’s weirdo behavior. The league will tell us if he has a chance.

Definitely going to be some interesting game theory to see when a team hoping to get Lebron drafts Bronny. I heard someone say the prospects at the top are at the level of a Tobias Harris/Dereck Lively coming out. My guess is that one of the current playoff teams is going to take a stab at it in the back end of the first.

Lol at "hatred". That's not an emotion I'm allocating to Bronny, I assure you. A question was posed and I answered it. If his last name was anything but James he wouldn't be relevant at all. You know this.
The ONLY reason he's being discussed at all is because LeBron wants to play with him and a team that drafts him might get his services for a year or two. You know this too.

I'll admit that his presence makes this draft just a little more interesting to a casual fan. What will happen to Bronny James Dio?

22 minutes in his final USC game. 3 points, 0 assists, 1 rebound. Screams defensive potential at the NBA level.
Peyton Watson's college stats - he was a first round pick.

It's hard to know how much Bronny's heart condition lead to his slow start, but he missed all of their preseason which is not great for an unrefined player like him.

With or without his dad being who his dad is, he would probably be a back portion of the draft kind of prospect. Like I said yesterday, his measurables outside of his height are very good for a PG. He shot especially well in drills yesterday as well, so he's showing the case for him being a 3D combo guard.

The one thing that will help him long term with being Lebron's kid is he will have access to trainers, nutritionists, etc. that most prospects of his I'll don't have. That may help him reach closer to his full potential than your average fringe draft prospect.

I would think he's had all that he wants of the bolded for quite a while

So we may have seen the upside already

I know we wouldn’t be talking about him, sure. But I do think he’d be invited to the combine and would have a shot at getting drafted in round 2. I sure wouldn’t be talking about college stat lines, because that is irrelevant to getting drafted. That’s been proven many times.

Proven how? What are we supposed to use, his driveway stats? Junior high? This is wish casting. Nothing more, nothing less.

I know nobody cares (and you shouldn’t) but no chance I’ll watch any broadcast with Draymond Green. IMO, he’s a horrible human and they are stupid for having him on. Flipped it on and saw he’s on there and changed the channel. **** Draymond.

I think he's doing well in studio

So far

If you’d stop wishing he was dead because of who his dad is, you’d realize he’s basically Scottie Pippen.
Coincidentally, Scottie pippen jr’s career (which still has a chance) could be definitely be his trajectory. Fringe nba guard who keeps working and trying to get chances and might hook on

Not sure why, but I'm finding myself rooting for the Pacers. I guess maybe they are just fun to watch?

I lived in Indy for a long stretch

Also, they are fun

And now they are starting to play some decent defense

Maybe not defense tonight...oy

Prior to the season, he was seen mostly as an early 2nd round talent. After the season, it seems like more of an end of the 2nd round talent BUT he's probably done a little to increase his draft stock at the combine.

I don't watch much college basketball, so I have no idea if he is worth a **** or not, but I trust scouts more than I trust box score stats from a player that had some serious health problems just before the season.
