Whatcha readin now? (book, books, reading, read)

Completed The Yearling by Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings, the 1939 Pulitzer Prize winner. This is another book that I'd heard of, but had no real idea what it was about. If pressed, I'd have said it's a children's book. Well ... yes and no. It is a story of a young boy, but there are some dark...

Concerts thread - FBG's lovin' live music, we're back in action!

Why the warning? Well, it's a 20 minute song that I'm not particularly fond of (especially the screaming distortion toward the end). W/r/t spoilers, in chatting with some of the other attendees we were told (unprompted) that that was going to be the encore and that they'd I kept thinking...

Concerts thread - FBG's lovin' live music, we're back in action!

I saw The Decemberists last night. Great show (although be forewarned, the encore is Joan in the Garden). The thing I like about the Decemberists in concert is that they always seem to have great openers. I've seen Alvvays open for them. And although you wouldn't consider them openers, I saw...

SNL is Friggin' Horrible! Except when Timberlake is hosting.

I've watched a lot of SNL episodes from start to finish, and I can say without fear of contradiction, that the most recent episode with Dua Lipa was one of the all time worst. Uninspired and unfunny. Hell, even Weekend Update whiffed an absurd number of times. And this after a hiatus.

I was actually living in DC when Kornheiser wrote that article and I clipped a copy from the Post. I wish I still had it. :sadbanana:

I think you're confusing dinosaur with cheapskate. If you were a dinosaur, you'd be hand-cranking the old Victrola playing 1/4" think 78s, not using space age technology. You're basically Save-a-Buck Rogers in the 25th century. ;)

Books you would like to see come to television

I would love to see A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole made into anything: movie, streaming series, grade school diorama. ‘A Confederacy of Dunces’: A History of Hollywood’s ‘Cursed’ Adaptation 😭

Why not use Spotify (or another streaming service)? Shoot the lock off the wallet. You'll save hours and hours of time and have much more music to choose from to boot. ETA: I did a double take when I saw the timestamp on this post. I thought I'd stumbled across an orphan thread from old yeller.

Whatcha readin now? (book, books, reading, read)

I just finished The Late George Apley: A Novel in the Form of a Memoir by John Phillips Marquand, the 1938 Pulitzer Prize winner. I went into the book without doing any research into either the novel or the author. Initially, I really hated it. It wasn't over the top in terms of highlighting...
