I think an added TV/Sky box official is the next step. The logistics of getting the flag out and the limits/keys seem difficult.
Most of you have no idea about officiating. You think you do, but until you have had the training, read the rulebook, and been on the field; you have very little...
I don't need readers, but with my contacts I had trouble reading. About 10 years ago (age 45) I changed one contact to the multifocal lens. I got no headaches. I played golf a lot so I wanted the distance. Last year with golfing down and reading getting more difficult, I switched to both...
There was a free bengal within three yards when he released the ball. That is close enough for imminent loss of yardage. These guys know the rules better than all of the commentators(including the former officials) They have had to learn more rule changes than anyone on this board knows of...
Adrian explained it perfectly. He is a great official. I was trained by him for officiating high school football, before he made it into the NFL.
The ones that no very little about the rules are the commentators (except for the former officials/supervisors)
First off, they are great officials, even the "bad" ones. Most jobs do not have the number of decisions to be made that officiating does. And these decisions are made in a 7 second window.
If you perform your job at 97% or greater, will you lose your job? How many plays are in a typical NFL...
When they do something egregious, they lose games. Egregious is not a judgement call. It is a wrong application of the rule.
They fired an official midseason a couple years ago.
When they are deemed not good enough, they do not get rehired for the next season. I know a couple of former NFL...
Are players fined for missing a block, holding, or false start?
Players are fined for uniform violations, dangerous plays, and off field items.
These were collective bargained. Same with the officials, it is in their contract.
Would you feel better knowing Dyrol got 5 demerits for...
Find me better officials. Where will you find them? These are the top 1%. Even the checkboxes are good officials.
Most of these guys put full time hours in during the season and close to it in the off season. These officials love the sport of football.
They have no bias and are not out to...
Actually the rule is two players with same number can not play the same position or be on the field at the same time. Coaches are likely to put the number on D and O, but sometimes that becomes a problem for special teams especially punt return.
NCAA changed the rule in 2006, after the Bush Push. The removed push from 9-3-2b The ball carrier shall not grasp a teammate; and no other teammate shall grasp, pull, or lift the ball carrier to assist in forward progress.
NFHS (Interscholastic) has push included in their wording of similar...
HS they can push the blockers, but not the runner. We called a helping the runner last Friday night.
Of my four HS games this season, we have called the penalty twice.
The previous 20 years, probably called twice.
