    Disney Vacation

Just got back from Disneyland/ California Adventure two weeks ago. I don’t want to say the parks were dead because there were still a lot of people but we didn’t wait more than 45 minutes for any ride. Compared to WDW two years ago, it was magical, where the waits on some rides exceeded 2 hours...

The “I want to retire soon” thread

Not sure it’s going to matter for those under 40ish right now. Think the majority are going to be working until they drop.

Road rage is out of control

Forgot about one. I still question to understand. Going to work and was in the hospital parking garage. I was following behind a large truck. Open spot and I pulled in. Got out of my car and the truck had backed up behind me and the guy started screaming that I’m an F-ing ahole over and over. I...

    No more Boy Scouts

Kind of where I’d be at. Had a person in their mid 30s with “captain of their college soccer team” on their resume. Felt like an Uncle Rico moment.

    32-Hour Work Week

I mean I’d like to be Brad Pitt. More likely he works 4 jobs at 20 hours each making 6-9 bucks an hour

    32-Hour Work Week

Agree with this as well but I struggle to see how this benefits corporate profit. Atleast at the publicly traded level, layoffs and stock buybacks are the easiest way to boost the stock price. Instead of getting a 32 hour week, I think you’d get more work and a mass layoff.

    32-Hour Work Week

I agree, I just question whether most would be able to afford it.

    32-Hour Work Week

Serious question though. Unless you’re in a high demand segment and irreplaceable, wouldn’t a publicly traded company be more likely to give you more work to fill your 40 hours and have a big layoff?

    32-Hour Work Week

Should or will? Because I think we know the answer to that. Think it’s more likely most people work 48 hours than 32 in the future.

Road rage is out of control

Appreciate it and you are probably correct.

Road rage is out of control

Had my own incident 4-5 months ago but I was the aggressor. My 12 year old daughter had to calm me down. Not my finest moment and I’ve since tried to de-stress my life. For me it had little to do with driving but stress and feeling a lack of control of my life in general. Think that’s the case...

How Has The Balance Of Power Changed For Employee - Employer Relationship Compared To 50 Years Ago?

Where I’m at too. Hospital I work at got rid of pensions 15 years ago and replaced that with a 2% match 403B. Nobody stays anymore which I think they prefer because older employees are more expensive. I’m lucky enough to have started shortly before the pension ended. It’s now at the point where...

How Has The Balance Of Power Changed For Employee - Employer Relationship Compared To 50 Years Ago?

Agree. Think is largely depends on the job and where we are in the economic cycle. Tech was red hot 2-3 years ago, you could name your price and conditions. Cooled substantially to the point of layoffs. Healthcare to a lesser extent. 2-3 years ago nurse travel contracts were twice what the are...

    Indefinite New England Patriots Thread

I hope we really don’t have to evaluate Maye at all this season. I don’t want to see him play. If they want to get him some experience in the last game or two, fine but I hope they dont put him in games where they are relying on him. I’d like to see another offseason to build the line and get...

We all know that Maye is all that matters in this draft. They could hit on every other pick but if Maye is a bust so was this draft and vice versa.

    Indefinite New England Patriots Thread

I mean it wasn’t some huge sweetheart deal to begin with. The Vikings are a mid pack team so the 2025 1st isn’t likely to be super high. They reportedly wanted two mid round picks back from the Patriots and they had to trade two more mid round picks to move up to get JJ. All in all if you like...
